The Team

  • James Moffatt
James Moffatt, a professional jump jockey for 14 years during which time he rode 78 winners, including a Scottish Champion Hurdle.  He is  one of the select few that has ridden and trained a Cheltenham Festival winner with Home Counties and Chief Dan George respectively.  James Moffatt gained his trainer's licence in  2003 after serving his time with Harvey Smith and Tommy Stack in Ireland.  His approach is  successful, being totally single minded -  he has managed to consistently produce big race winners across the Country from his  racing yard in Cartmel.
  • Nadine Moffatt
Nadine has always been involved in horses and is a graduate of Doncaster Racing College.  She has been part of the team for ten years after having two other jobs in racing yards as a work rider.  Nadine plays a major role in the feeding, veterinary side and general organisation of the yard.  She became a member of the Moffatt family when she married James Moffatt in 2015 and they welcomed their baby boy, Jenson Moffatt to the team in 2016.
  • Charlotte Jones
Charlotte has worked for the team for 2 years. Charlotte has always been involved with horses from a young age and previous to working at Pitt Farm, she graduated from university with a first class Equine Science degree. In 2016 Charlotte got her conditional jockey’s lisence to become the yard’s stable conditional and since then has ridden 3 winners for the yard from 11 rides. She is an excellent and talented rider that is always striving towards helping improve the yard.
  • Polly Steele
Polly has been at the yard for 2 years after studying at Myerscough College and working for 2 years at a thoroughbred stud farm. She has huge dedication along with great ability in the saddle. As yard manager Polly is involved with all aspects of preparation for racing.
  • Chiropractor
Mark Noble is has been the yards chiropractor for over 10 years and is based in the north of England. His jobs is to focus on the horses spine and its relationship with the nervous system. Back problems can cause many issues in the way a horse preforms on the race track as well as their work at home. Mark plays a major roll in helping maintain the horses health and well-being and getting them to the racecourse.
  • Farrier
Richard Helliwell and his team are the yards farriers who specialise in shoeing, trimming and balancing the horses hooves. Richard has been visiting the yard on a weekly basis for over 10 years and ensures that all the horses are sound with their feet in the best condition possible.
  • Abby Smith
The newest member of the team, Abby is locally born and bred. A Cartmel girl with a strong equine background being involved with the point to point scene. Abby is a brilliant addition to the yard.
  • Henry Brooke
Henry Brooke has ridden for us for a number of years, most notably the rider of Highland Lodge, steering him to victory in the Becher Chase along with two places efforts in the same race. Not only is Henry an amazing jockey but he is also a great guy to have on our team.
  • Brain Hughes
    Brian Hughes
